MP gets Leighton buzzing for electric cars

LEIGHTON took an exciting step towards green transport on Friday as MP Andrew Selous and Central Beds Council officially ‘plugged-in’ a new electric vehicle charging point in the town centre.

The charging point on the ground floor of West Street multi-storey car-park is the first in Central Bedfordshire to be included in the Source East Electric Vehicle Recharging Network.

The council has worked with Source East, managed by EValu8 Transport Innovations Ltd, to install the point and introduce electric vehicles as part of its commitment to enhance sustainable transport. The point can be used by the public and links a growing number of charging points across the East of England region.

Mr Selous said: “Electric vehicles will provide cheaper motoring, massive new job prospects and help slow down climate change. “I hope these are the first of many electric vehicle charging points to be installed in Central Bedfordshire over the next few years.”
