New surgery opens

THE new Grovebury Road Surgery opened its doors for the first time on Saturday inviting people to take a look round.

About 150 people attended the event, including patients, Leighton Linslade Mayor Cllr Gordon Perham, Andrew Selous MP, Town Councillors and local healthcare staff.

Cllr Perham and Andrew Selous met with staff and patients of the new surgery and enjoyed a guided tour of the new facility, including consulting and treatment rooms, the baby clinic and improved parking facilities.

Cllr Gordon Perham said: “I am sure this is going to be a great success, with excellent health facilities for patients to come and see their doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff.

Andrew Selous MP congratulated the practice on their new premises; he said: “I am delighted to see this modern GP surgery opening to provide high quality healthcare services to their patients.

“Leighton buzzard is a largest town without a community hospital and this is the first step towards achieving the important health needs of the town and for patients to access more services nearer to their homes.

“Over time, I look forward to the possibility of seeing a greater range of services provided here, such as minor clinical procedures and clinics for long-term conditions such as Diabetes, which patients would otherwise need to travel to hospital for.”

Dr Sivakumar, Senior Partner at Grovebury Road Surgery, said: “It is a pleasure to be able to practise to in our new surgery, with greatly improved services for our patients and excellent working conditions for our staff.

“It has been a long process to bring this to a reality and I thank everyone including our patients, members of Patient Participation Group, NHS Bedfordshire and our staff, who have all helped in achieving this.”

Partner, Dr Day, said: “Several of our patients who attended the open event relayed to us how they were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to catch public transport to our new facility. Another stated that they had walked to the event via a stroll on the public footpaths.”
