Reformed smoker Paul de Denis la Soie is having a marathon effort to raise funds for a disabled charity and he’s looking for your help.

A year ago Paul, 33, quit smoking and decided to replace it with something healthier – running.

Now he’s entering the 26 mile Marathon De Paris which is taking place in the French capital on April 7.

Paul, a freelance hairdresser from Finch Crescent, Linslade, who has been limbering up with a few English trials, said: “I really never would have even entertained a 1km race in the past but I decided to set myself a goal and now I’m a lot fitter. Psychologically I never thought I had it in me but if I can do it then anyone can.

“I had the idea of running a marathon and thought it a great way to raise money for charity. Having been inspired by the Olympics and Paralympics 2012 I chose Get Kids Going as they provide support and specialised sports equipment for disabled children and young people.

“The Paralympians really demonstrated how exceptional disabled people can be in sport if they have the right equipment, and so I hope to complete the Paris Marathon and raise as much money as I can.

“Some charities insist that you raise a certain amount before you can represent them but Get Kids Going are just grateful of any support you can give them and so far people have really got behind my efforts.”

Anyone wanting to donate to Paul’s charity can do so by visiting: www.justgiving.com/Helios13 or www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Helios or by texting GOGO80 followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.
