Leighton’s MP was inspired to announce that ‘apathy is dead’ as more than 100 people turned up with their suggestions on how to save the town centre that has seen popular stores fall into administration.

Leighton-Linslade’s first Community Forum meeting began on Saturday as the public united with local authorities and groups to voice their thoughts.

Andrew Selous MP was chairman of Leighton-Linslade Town Council and Central Beds Council’s first of three meetings throughout 2013. The event focused on You and Your Town Centre and attendees were split into groups to discuss aspects within the town.

Mr Selous said: “One thing I can say for sure is that apathy is dead in Leighton Buzzard.

“Unlike in previous meetings when hardly anyone turned up, there were literally people standing up round the theatre.

“It was fantastic to see, I was really thrilled that so many turned out.

The feedback will now be collated and reviewed and the Community Forum group will meet again to discuss it and a second date will be confirmed for the next meeting.

If you did not get the chance to leave your feedback form or attend the meeting your input is welcome. Email partnership@leightonlinslade-tc.gov.uk.
