A pervert who groomed a boy and two girls over the internet and persuaded them to perform sex acts was jailed for two years eight months.

Roger Haddock, 62, took screen grabs of the sexual abuse from his computer and filed them with more than 1,800 images of child pornography in a wooden cabinet.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Matthew-Stroud told Luton Crown Court yesterday, that Haddock was arrested on February 18, 2010 when police went to his home in Johnson Drive, Leighton Buzzard on an unrelated inquiry.

In an upstairs bedroom they found two computers and a brown wooden cabinet. Inside were 236 DVDs and CDs. Some were labelled ‘Special Edition’ and others were labelled ‘Restricted Access.’

He was found to have 85 child sex abuse images at Level 4, 57 at Level 3, 491 at Level 2 and 1,198 at Level 1. He also had two movies at Level 4 and 3 at Level 2. Child sex abuse images have 5 grades – with 1 being the least serious and 5 the most.

Haddock pleaded guilty to three charges of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, having indecent images of those three children, possessing 1,836 indecent images of children and three charges relating to specific images. He was of previous good character.

Judge David Farrell QC ordered that Haddock be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and passed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which includes a ban on him being alone with children, not having children in his home and not connecting any device to the internet without registering his computer with the police.
