Please resolve to volunteer

If you make only one resolution this new year, ensure it’s this: to volunteer for Keech Hospice Care or one of the many charities desperate for people with time to help across a range of activities.

Keech spokeswoman Andie Hill said: “For many of our volunteering opportunities, no previous experience is required and full training can be provided when necessary.

“It could be doing something you already love, such as swimming.

“We’re in desperate need of lifeguards at our hydrotherapy pool. There’s also a six-seater spa designed to cater to the needs of the frail and disabled of all ages.

“Hydrotherapy is beneficial to all our patients, particularly the children, because the warm water and buoyancy stimulate circulation and make exercise easier and more effective.”

If you’re a confident swimmer who can promise the hospice one session a week for a minimum of one year, it will provide full certified training in the form of a National Pool Lifeguard qualification.
The charity is also looking for volunteers in fields such as catering, reception, admin and retail as well as those who can drive or offer complementary therapies.

In addition, Hospice at Home has a number of volunteer vacancies.

Ms Hill said: “Some of these roles carry age restrictions and applications are subject to references and may require CRB checks.

“We depend on a team of more than 1,200 dedicated volunteers who work across all areas of the charity.

“Volunteering is one way you can offer your support and you will gain satisfaction knowing your time and effort are making a huge difference to patients with life-limiting illnesses.”
