Police complaints
Complaints from the public about Bedfordshire Police are the lowest they have been for three years, says Det Supt Nathan Briant, the head of the force’s Professional Standards Department.
National figures published last week by the Independent Police Complaints Commission highlight an increase in appeals they have upheld, but overall the number of people complaining about customer service has fallen by 126 or 35% (from 355 to 229).
Det Supt Briant said: “Policing by its very nature is public facing and as such ensuring that our interactions meet with the standard expected is critical to maintaining public confidence and victim satisfaction. Officers have thousands of such interactions each day and most end well. Where there are instances of professional standards falling short, it’s imperative to find out why and put it right.
“The data is historical and does not reflect the changes in processes we have made in the past 12 months, to focus even more on customer service and public satisfaction, which remains our priority.”
