Power out for east Leighton

Thirty customers in east Leighton, including the town’s premier garden centre, will be blacked out for six hours tomorrow when UK Power Networks carry out vital maintenance work to equipment.

The planned work is needed so that a reliable power supply is maintained in the area.

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: “In order for engineers to safely carry out the work, 30 customers in Hockliffe Road and Leighton Road will have their power turned off between 9am and 3pm.

“We have notified our customers in advance of the work to enable them to make alternative arrangements on that day. We do understand that no date will suit all our customers but always strive to cause the least disruption possible and have been notified by some businesses that weekends are their busiest trading times.

“Combined with the fact that some of the customers affected are residential and not businesses it was decided the least disruptive time to carry out the work would be a week day.

“We apologise for any inconvenience but will carry out the work as quickly as is safely possible.”
