Public give Beds Police a vote of confidence
New survey shows backing for force.
A MAJOR drive to win the public vote has paid off for Beds Police.
A new survey has shown that more than 80 per cent of people questioned have confidence generally in the force.
Just over a year ago the government demanded that police and local councils were seen to be tackling anti-social behaviour and crime.
A survey, commissioned by Beds Police Authority and Beds Police, showed nearly 70 per cent of people thought they were dealing with the local issues that matter most.
It also showed that 77 per cent of people thought the local police did a pretty good job; 70 per cent are confident the police understand the issues that affect local communities; 70 per cent think crime and anti-social behaviour is not much of a problem locally; 76per cent agree the police treat everyone with equal respect and 90 per cent consider the police to be professional.
Chief constable Gillian Parker: "I am delighted with the results of this survey. This shows the hard work to improve our performance and the service we give to our communities has had a really positive impact."
Police authority chairman, Peter Conniff, added: "The results show that standards have improved across the board as a result of increased investment and a lot of hard work."
