Record GCSE results for Central Beds students

Pupils and teachers congratulated for their efforts

Central Bedfordshire Council is sending its congratulations to students and teachers in the district for achieving excellent GCSE results.

Results in nearly every school increased this year and in many cases were substantially higher than in 2009. These results include GCSE courses as well as any other vocational courses taken by students.

Based on early data about 250 more students achieved five or more A*-C grades this year and additionally 200 of these students achieved A*-C grades and also got a GCSE in English and mathematics.

As a result there are many delighted students across Central Bedfordshire. who will now be well placed to go on to further study at school, college, or into a job. Advice on what is available can be found from local schools and colleges.

Cllr Anita Lewis, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: "This fantastic achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of Central Bedfordshire students and their teachers and I offer my congratulations to all of them.

"For many this is the first milestone in deciding what further education they will take. Will it be sixth form or college or will they decide to take on an apprenticeship? Whatever they decide to do, I wish them all success for the future."

Of course there may be some students who may not have got the grades they wanted but there are plenty of options available to them. Central Bedfordshire Council is hosting a number of events and drop in sessions for those students who might need advice on what to do next.
