A thirsty young sheep got more of a drink than he bargained for when he fell into the Grand Union Canal on Wednesday and had to be rescued.
The animal had been with a flock in a field neighbouring the canal between Old Linslade and the Three Locks pub, Linslade, when it went for a swim.
A passer-by saw the animal floundering in the water and called the emergency services.
Leighton firefighter Pat Carberry donned a dry suit and went in to rescue the sheep.
Unaffected by its ordeal, it went back to join its pals.
“Luckily sheep have a lot of gas in them so it helps them to float,” said Pat.
