Schools across Central Bedfordshire are closing as the snow sweeps across the county to allow teachers, students and parents to get home safely before the weather worsens.

So far eight schools have shut up early for the weekend, with Cedars Upper School closing at 11.10am, but students that cannot get home will be supervised until collected.

Brooklands Middle School is now closed due to bad weather conditions, but parents can collect from reception or call to give permission for their child to leave.

Greenleas Lower School has also closed due to failure in gas supply and inability to provide a hot meal as well as adverse weather conditions.

Linslade Middle School closed at 11.30am and the teachers have said they will follow instructions given by families in recent letter and any child who is unable to get home will be cared for in school.

Beaudesert Lower sent students home from 11am onwards, but the school said if students having a school dinner parents can collect from 12.30pm.

Other schools that have been shut include Eaton Bray Academy closed, Stanbridge Lower School, Woburn Lower School, Heath Barn and Vandyke Upper School.

Leighton Middle School will also be closed from 2pm this afternoon.
