Spam...yum, yum, lovely!
Youngsters re-enact VE Day
SPAM was on the menu at Mary Bassett Lower School when pupils re-enacted a VE Day street party.
Children at the school in Bassett Road, Leighton, dressed in Second World War fashions and decorated their classrooms with Union Flags and tasted spam and rock cakes. They also played hop scotch and jacks.
In a performance to friends and families they sang The White Cliffs of Dover in true Vera Lynn style and shared what they had learned about the war years.
Head teacher Deborah Pargeter said: "The children loved spam! The day made World War II real for them. They understood the sadness and trauma, but also understood the celebrations when victory was announced."
