Store wars as fight goes on

Protestors fighting proposed out-of-town warehouse developments for Leighton are unconvinced about the latest set of rival plans for a retail park.

Campaign leader Tom Shattock, who runs TK Furniture in the town centre, has questioned the developers’ knowledge of the town as they look to redevelop parts of the industrial estate off Grovebury Road. As reported in last week’s LBO, this is the third set of proposals for this area of town.

And in response to Greg Mitchell, planning director of Framptons, who are Barwood’s agents, Mr Shattock said: “He says we have a successful and vibrant town centre. How would he know without asking the local shops and market stall holders, which he obviously hasn’t done.
