Two women from Leighton Buzzard will run the London Marathon for the first time on Sunday - days after returning from Las Vegas.

Michelle Bradley, 37, of Eagle Close, and Catherine Game, 35, of Drakes Avenue, have raised more than £2,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

They will squeeze in the trip across the Atlantic to attend a friend’s wedding on Wednesday before returning for the big race.

Michelle said: “We applied for the ballot but didn’t really think much more about it because no one gets out of the ballot... and then I did!

“We picked Macmillan because lots of people we know have been affected by cancer - my auntie had the highest stage of breast cancer last year, which was very tough.”

Michelle and Catherine have been training with Leighton Fun Runners and completed a half-marathon in 2012, as well as a couple of 10km races.

Michelle added: “We joined Leighton Fun Runners a couple of years ago and after the half-marathon Catherine crossed the line and said ‘I will never run a full marathon!’”
