A man and two children also suffered injuries in the crash in Eaton Bray
A teenager was airlifted to a specialist trauma unit after a serious road traffic collision yesterday, Tuesday, August 24.
Paramedics were called to The Rye at 5.20pm to find two cars had collided and the driver of one of the vehicles was trapped.
The motorist was named locally as 17-year-old Adam Weaver.
Five ambulance crews and a helicopter from Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance were sent to the scene, close to the garden centre in the village.
Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "A team of paramedics and a doctor from the air ambulance worked for over an hour to treat and stabilise four patients involved in the collision.
"A 17-year-old, man who was driving one of the cars, received serious injuries. He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.
"The second car involved had three occupants, a man and two children, a boy and a girl, all received slight injuries. They were conveyed to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital by land ambulance."
Gary added: "The emergency services at the scene worked extremely hard to stabilise the patients."
