Town's popular street-sweeper Curtis retires

ONE of Leighton's best known public figures celebrated his 69th birthday on Friday by retiring after 53 years service with the local authority.

Curtis Ebanks of Linslade is pictured in the town's Market Square on his last day at work as a street cleaner.

Curtis said he is looking forward to having a rest before finding a part time job.

"I like to keep myself busy," he said.

"I'm going to miss the job for all the lovely people I meet and I would like to thank all who know me for their kindness.

"I will always keep my respect for them and I would like to tell them I will still be around to say hello."
