Staff at Forticrete raise 10,035 for charity.

Staff from one of Leighton’s leading businesses, Forticrete, has raised more than £10,000 for charity after a staff team took part in the world’s largest and most iconic triathlon, the gruelling Virgin Active London Triathlon.

The team joined with colleagues from another roofing company, Cityroofs, to form The Roofing Racers and together they raised about £50,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Eighteen Forticrete staff, three Cityroofs staff and one member of staff from another firm, Ibstock, completed the daunting ‘Sprint’ triathlon – which included a 750m swim of the River Thames, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run around London’s Docklands.

Supported and sponsored by colleagues, family, friends and suppliers, the brave competitors completed the three part challenge either individually, or as a team of three.

John Lambert, general manager at Forticrete, said: “After taking part in last year’s event and raising such a tremendous amount of money for such a worthwhile cause, we simply couldn’t resist doing it all over again – despite knowing how punishing it actually is!

“To raise even more money this time around is a fantastic achievement and we are extremely grateful to each and every member of the team that took part and to those that sponsored us.”

Employees who took part included: Individual Entrants (Forticrete) - John Lambert, Kevin Higby, Michael Trott, Mathew Davies, Paul Walker, Lewis Turnbull and Lisa Pygall.

Team Entrants: Gareth Emmonds (Ibstock Group); Claire Godleman (Forticrete); Liz Biggin (Forticrete); Sean Welch (Forticrete); Lesley Pygall (Forticrete); Guiseppe Castelluccio (Forticrete); Claire Elliott (Forticrete); Karen Walker (Forticrete); Kevin Nelson (Cityroofs); John Ward (Cityroofs); Matthew Hoddinott (Cityroofs).
