A last-ditch attempt to stop a swimming pool being torn from the heart of a village community has saved the day.
Last Tuesday, a meeting was held to discuss the future of Woburn Pool, Crawley Road, after it was made public that due to lack of volunteers and funding for repairs and improvements the pool was in threat of closure.
It was voted unanimously by those in attendance to keep the pool open, which has been part of the Woburn community for 50 years.
It was leased by the parish council to trustees back in 1964 who since then have controlled the leisure facility with a committee of management in charge, but prior to the meeting there was just one person left to run the committee.
Unless more people come forward there is no option but to close the pool and for the land to be returned to the parish council.
