Wedding plans have been thrown up in the air after detailed research vanished inside a laptop belonging to a Leighton business woman.

Co-owner of Eden Beauty Hayley McCarthy, 26, and her fiance Paul Hegley, 28, returned to their home in Knolls View, Totternhoe. to find their MacBook Pro missing.

The beautician, based in Leighton Buzzard garden centre on Hockliffe Road, says she will ‘do anything to get it back’ but can’t understand why the thieves did not take anything else.

Hayley said: “All they have taken is the MacBook Pro and nothing else not even the leads or charger. It could have been made to order, but we just don’t know.

“It is so suspicious because there was my partner’s wallet, DVDs and CDs we got for Christmas that were lying around in the lounge. They were easily available to be picked up.

“There is also thousands of pounds worth of Paul’s music equipment that they didn’t touch. They could have been disturbed and that’s why they didn’t take any more.”

Among the wedding plans stored on the laptop were researched poems and readings, guest lists and prices.

But that wasn’t the only irretrievable content that was lost.

Paul, who is known in Leighton-Linslade as being in The Paul Hegley Band and regularly performs at the Wheatsheaf in North Street, had all his recorded and written music and important band information stored on there.

Hayley added: “He is really upset. The laptop had songs he had written and music he had been working on for future gigs. It is not nice to know someone was in your house. There is that sentimental value there that we need to get back.”

The incident has left the couple, who are due to get married in September, doubting those close to them as they try to figure out how intruders got in between 11.30pm on January 3 and 4pm the next day.

“We don’t know how they got in. When the police arrived they went round the house and had a look, but can’t see any forced entry. It is really frustrating. We don’t know if it has been someone we know who has been able to copy the key.

“We just want to make everyone aware of what happened and if they have seen anything, or been asked if they want to buy one recently.”
