Against all the odds a disabled mother-of-three has graduated with first class honours and a host of awards – and went through it all with her husband by her side who sacrificed his career to look after her.

Mandy Newman, 53, of Wingrave is celebrating a first-class degree in BA (Hons) Creative Writing from Buckinghamshire New University and a hat-trick of awards after overcoming serious illness.

She said: “I decided to be brave and take a risk.

“I knew I wanted to return to studying and further my writing but I had so many difficulties to tackle.
