Naomi Higby, 29, of Heath Meadows, said: “The charity is very close to our hearts as Macmillan nurses supported Grandad in his last months until he passed away last year. During his illness he organised several fundraising events to raise as much money as possible for the charity and we wanted to continue in his memory.”

Prizes were donated by local businesses and the evening raised a grand total of £940.

London-born Dave – who had four children, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren – moved to Leighton in the 1970s. He owned and managed typesetting company Gilbert Composing Services for more than four decades. He loved table tennis and in his prime played for Milton Keynes premier division.

Naomi said: “He was very encouraging to all of us and extremely generous. He was the life and soul of all our family parties and we miss his zest for life.”
