Meet the team - Beckham and the boys

Kittens on to a winner!

World Cup fever has swept across the county and reached Tingrith's Stray Cat Rescue, where a litter of tiny residents – four black and white kittens – have been named Rooney, Beckham, Gerrard and Lampard.

The eight-week-old bundles are the latest residents at the shelter, which is bursting at the seams with friendly felines desperate for a loving home.

One is mum to the quartet of kittens – a six-year-old moggy who was previously living in a shed. There is also five-year-old Kendal, a quiet and happy male cat, and two-year-old timid LuLu, who is white and tabby.

Tabby boys Tiz and Taz were brought to Stray Cat Rescue by a family who had recently had a baby and couldn't cope with the cats. The boys, aged seven and eight, are microchipped and need to be homed together.

Mirror image girls Millie and Mollie would also like to go to the same family. The black and white cats are 18 months old and full of life. Both have been innoculated.

Smokie and Dustie are two more kittens at the shelter – one grey and one black and white. At just 16 weeks old they are very friendly and playful.

Full of beans Samuel, almost two, is very mischevous and play bites, but has a great sense of adventure. And one-year-old Ricky is also full of life and is very affectionate.

Ginger toms Jason and Donovan, aged nine and 10, have a more quiet and loving temperament. Tiny tortoiseshell girls, Chocolate and Coco, aged nine months, are very pretty and friendly.

Stray Cat Rescue has been running for more than 15 years near Tingrith. The charity, which spends 17,500 a year on vets bills alone, is always looking for volunteers and foster parents for old and infirm cats.

Despite generous donations of food and cat litter from wellwishers, topping up levels throughout the year costs the shelter a further 8,000 and their total outgoings are more than 30,000.

If you can home any of these cute cats call Bev on 01525 875993. For enquiries about kittens, call 01582 881436.
