Men wanted for Masqueraders

Theatre group send out curtain call.

ONE of the town's top musical theatre groups is looking for a pair of men to step into the spotlight this summer.

The Leighton Masqueraders is the first am-dram group in the country to have been given permission by entertainer and writer Victoria Wood to stage her hit comedy Acorn Antiques.

But casting has fallen short and the group has sent out a call to find two men willing to fill two major roles.

The show's director Emma Whittemore, said: "It was quite a coup for us to be given the rights to Acorn Antiques. It has been done professionally on stage but no other am-dram group has tackled it until now.

"We were all set to go and have begun rehearsals for the show, which is playing at the Leighton Library Theatre in June, and then two of our cast had to drop out due to work commitments.

"We desperately need two men aged over 25. One to play Derek, one half of a gay couple, and another to play shop owner Mr Furlong.

"There is some singing, no necessarily dancing, but they are two quite prominent parts".

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Beaudesert,
