Michelle Ryan, Ray Quinn and Billy Boyd lead Royal and Derngate autumn season
Screen favourites launch awesome autumn programme
THERE are some shows it's going to be hard to miss this autumn. The big blockbuster Spamalot comes to the Royal & Derngate in September before heading to Milton Keynes Theatre in November and Aylesbury Waterside in the New Year.
Chess and Calendar Girls also start off at the Northampton venue before goin g to MK and Waterside respectively.
The autumn season just announced by Royal and Derngate is packed with drama and entertainment.
Bionic Woman, TV star Michelle Ryan, is heading the cast in Patricia Highsmith's gripping thriller The Talented Mr Ripley (though sadly not accompanied by Matt Damon and Jude Law).
Ripley follows the exploits of an enigmatic conman with a flair for manipulation and deceit. Sent to Italy under the guise of coaxing home the wayward son of a wealthy financier, his web of lies steadily spreads until murder becomes his only escape.
Lust, vengeance and madness collide in John Webster's devastating Jacobean masterpiece, The Duchess of Malfi, set among the corruption and claustrophobia of a 16th Century Italian court.
It's followed by a magical festive season featuring the enchanting tale of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe on the Royal stage and TV heartthrob Ray Quinn starring in Jack and the Beanstalk on the Derngate.
A new version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Tell Me On A Sunday , starring Claire Sweeney will have its premiere in the Derngate this autumn (it will also be coming to The Grove later in the year).
Chess, written by written by Tim Rice and ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, featuring the hits I Know Him So Well and One Night in Bangkok and starring Strictly Come Dancing's Craig Revel Horwood is on the programme.
The critically-acclaimed new musical Sunshine on Leith features the music of the The Proclaimers in a moving tale of two soldiers returning home from the army starring the actor Billy Boyd (best known as the hobbit Pippin in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy).
Touring drama in the Royal auditorium includes The Big Fellah , Richard Bean's boisterous and witty story of loyalty, disillusionment and betrayal, from the makers of The Permanent Way (Out of Joint) and Three Sisters (Lyric Hammersmith).
