Monster fun at Leighton library

Children's characters put in an appearance

Doesn't he know? There's no such thing as a Gruffalo!'

Well, Leighton and Linslade children thought differently this week when the long tusked monster made a visit to the library.

Along with the Gruffalo, Linslade's talented illustrator Ben Cort was there and wowed the audience with a powerpoint presentation of his Aliens Love Underpants series. He then drew an alien designed by the children which one lucky child got to take home!

One cheeky chappy even decided to show Ben his underpants! Anyone who had a book for Ben to sign was also treated to a personalised drawing of an alien with underpant design of their choice.

Another visitor was The Bookstart Bear which was met with delighted cheers as he made his appearance in the library in Lake Street, where children and parents were treated to 'We're Going ona Bear Hunt' while the big blue bear acted along with the story. More than 50 people turned up to meet the bear and sing songs with him making it a popular event.

More than 250 people turned up to meet the Gruffalo for his first ever appearance here in Leighton. There were a few tears at first but once the children realised the Gruffalo was a big, friendly, fluffymonster they were soon won over.

The Gruffalo listened while the audience wasread the book by author Julia Donaldson, then the children enjoyed Gruffalo themed crafts while parents and children each had their own individual photos taken with the gentle giant.

Sad faces were all around as the Gruffalo waved goodbye ending the Book Festival events.
