Patrols promised after pupil says he was followed

Police are promising to patrol the area around Brooklands School in Leighton Buzzard after a suspicious incident where a pupil said he had been followed towards his school by a man.

Officers were contacted after the report from a 12-year-old student on Monday between 8am and 8.20am.

The man had been walking along Stanbridge Road behind the boy and had crossed over the road after the boy had and lingered outside the Post Office.

However the man did not follow the boy down an alleyway when the boy went down one.

The man is described as white, in his 50s, with white hair, wearing a brown jacket and with a persistent cough.

A police spokesman said: “Bedfordshire Police will be patrolling in the area during the times pupils go and return from school to offer reassurance to local residents.

“Police would like to talk to the white haired man if he would like to contact us. He and anyone else with any information about this incident should call Leighton Buzzard police station on 01582 473411. or call 101.”
