ABOUT 150 police officers, some armed, stormed Greenacre Caravan Site and Toddbury Farm in Little Billington, this morning to rescue alleged slaves being held on the site.

The Beds and Herts Major Crime unit joined forces with specialist units including the dog section, helicopter and firearms support and made four arrests.

24 people were taken away to a special centre who were thought to have been kept hostage and as slaves on the site, some for as many as 15 years.

One man was found to be covered in dog excrement, while others were so malnourished that an intake of proper food may kill them. The men found were British, Polish and Slovakian and were kept in horse boxes, caravans and sheds.

Police said the Little Billington site could be the hub for a national slavery organisation operating globally and was said to be worth multi-millions of pounds.
