A stranger came to the aid of an 18-year-old man who was viciously attacked while he walked through Leighton town centre with friends.

The victim suffered a swollen and bruised face, arms and legs after he was grabbed by his clothes and punched to the floor by a man outside Halfords on North Street.

He was then continuously kneed in the body as he lay in the street before being seen by an unnamed member of the public who intervened.

After threatening to call the police the offender took off in his white van.

He is described as being a tall, white man with a bulky build, short hair and a strong Irish accent.

Investigating officer PC Lucy Craddock says she is looking for witnesses of the attack and, in particular, would like to speak to the member of the public who intervened.

The details of the attack were only released to the LBO today. The victim took three weeks to report the incident, which happened between December 18 and December 25.

If you have any information, call PC Craddock on the 101 number.
