Councillor Ray Berry was inaugurated as town mayor for 2014 – 2015 at the annual meeting of Leighton Linslade Town Council on Monday evening.
The meeting at the new Astral Park Sports and Community facility, saw Councillor Berry, pictured on the left, take over from Councillor Amanda Dodwell. Mayoress, Val Berry was also in attendance.
Councillor Dodwell raised more than £6,544 during her term of office and was pleased to present cheques to representatives from her chosen charities; Mencap Leighton Buzzard & District, Reclaim Life, Leighton Linslade Homeless Service and PDSD Resolution. Councillor Berry will be raising funds during his term for Macmillan Cancer Support Leighton Buzzard, SSAFA Forces Help Beds branch and the ATC (1003) Leighton Buzzard Squadron. Councillor David Bowater was elected deputy town mayor, with Gordon Perham re-elected as leader of the council, with Councillor Dodwell elected as deputy leader.
On her year as mayor, Councillor Dodwell said: “Until taking on this role I had no idea how many different things there are going on in our town.
“I have had the pleasure of visiting some of the voluntary groups who work tirelessly to make life that bit better for others, and I have met many different people across the town who give freely of their time for the benefit of our community.
“To be honest, I can’t even tell you how many events I have attended, but I can say without exception that I have enjoyed every single one of them.
“I would like to thank the people of Leighton Linslade. I have really appreciated the opportunity to spend a year as your mayor, and it has been an honour to learn more about our town and the many wonderful people who live here.”
