Raising awareness of the challenges faced by carers

Carers Week
Carers Week

If caring for a family member or loved one takes up a lot of your time and you need extra help and advice, a special drop-in information session at Astral Park, Leighton Buzzard, could be for you.

Carers Week (June 8-14) is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

As part of this campaign, Central Bedfordshire Carers Forum is hosting an event on Tuesday, June 9 from 10am to 2.30pm at Astral Park, in Johnson Drive.

It will be one of many other events that will be held across Central Bedfordshire to recognise carers, including the launch of Carers Coffee Morning and drop-in at Arden House, West Street, Leighton, on June 11 (10am-12.30pm) and, on June 16, an information stand at Leighton Buzzard Market (8am-1pm) and cream tea for carers, family members and friends at Parson’s Rec (2-4pm).

A range of organisations such as Carers in Bedfordshire, Healthwatch Central Bedfordshire, Bedfordshire’s mental health service provider East London NHS Foundation Trust, charities MIND and Age UK, along with other local groups will be supporting the events, offering information about their services and support for carers. This will include advice on issues such as social care, health, housing, leisure activities and more.

There are 6.5 million carers in the UK and around 25,000 of these are in Central Bedfordshire.
