A 32-year-old from Woburn is challenging to become the first British man to sea kayak around the coastline of Sweden alone and unsupported.
James Cox 32, of Bloomsbury Close, will travel 1,500 miles in 40 days in memory of his late grandfather who lost his struggle with prostate cancer in 1999.
On May 20, James, who is raising money for Prostate Cancer UK and Willen Hospice, will paddle the entire coastline of Sweden – a challenge he says will push his body to its absolute physical and mental limit.
He said: “To travel as a humble guest in the vast kingdom of the sea will truly be a journey I will never forget.
“To undertake such a huge challenge will put both mind and body under massive strain and will be a true test of my skill, endurance and spirit, but the lure of adventure and the opportunity to raise money for two charities that are close to my heart is too exciting to pass up.
“The whole idea to kayak around Sweden is the outcome of an over active imagination. I’ve been dreaming about it for years but now its time for me to actually do it.”
He says it’s important to raise funds because one in eight men will get prostate cancer and it will be the most common cancer by 2030.
James added: “I hope to make a difference and help other families who have been affected by this dreadful disease.”
