The stamp of approval after hospice collection

The Inner Wheel Club of Leighton Buzzard recently presented six large gym balls to Willen Hospice for use in their new physiotherapy centre. This was made possible by collecting Target Stamps from the LBO.

The new physiotherapy room is part of the hospice’s Wellbeing Centre, which is a new service within their project ‘Bringing the Outside in’ and will be fully operational this September.

The photograph shows Inner Wheel Club members, president Maggie Grigg, Val Fookes and Angela Hardman handing over the six balls to Lorna O’Herlihy, fundraising manager and Rachel Tomlinson, director of nursing at the hospice.

> Is your local school, club, charity or youth group collecting LBO Target Stamps?

Schools are particularly well placed to make the most of our fund-raising scheme, because many have hundreds of pupils and each one is a potential Target Stamp saver.

The more people you get to collect the tokens printed on page 2 of the Leighton Buzzard Observer every week, the sooner we give you money to pay for equipment.

We have well over 100 local schools, clubs, charities and other good causes registered as collecting our Target Stamps every week.

Whenever any of them reaches their target number of stamps, the Leighton Buzzard Observer newspaper gives them cash to buy the items they have been saving for.

It’s our way of rewarding reader loyalty and supporting the community in Leighton-Linslade and nearby villages.

LBO readers can play their part by choosing which group they want to help to raise funds. You can give your stamps directly to the organisations concerned or bring them to us when you’ve collected a reasonable bundle and we’ll pass them on for you.

For more details about the scheme call Geoff Cox on 01582 798504 or email One thing we ask is that groups must register their project with us at the start of saving, so that we can plan our budget – please don’t just turn up at the LBO office with a sack full of stamps and ask for a new minibus!

Here is a list of Target Stamp collectors. If any group is saving our stamps but is not included, please contact the LBO to re-register with us as a member of the scheme.

The same applies if any organisation is listed but is no longer collecting stamps – please let us know, so we can take them off the system. Please ring Geoff Cox on 01582 798504 or email news@lb
