They’re holding a special drop-in event at the station from 9am to 1pm on Saturday (March 11) to show what’s involved.

A Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We want to encourage more women to join to help protect their local communities.

“Being an on-call firefighter offers women flexible employment that can be arranged around their own schedule as well as providing an exciting way to help their local community.”
Watch commander Stuart Young added: “Our event on Saturday will give them an opportunity to try on fire kit and breathing apparatus, as well as using some of our equipment. There are plenty of active women out there who might want a challenging job.”
