Town support SA toy appeal

The Salvation Army has said a huge thank-you to the people of Leighton-Linslade whose generosity has led to a bumper toy appeal for needy families.

More than 100 gifts of new toys have gone out to children, aged from birth right up to 17.

For some it will be their only Christmas present as families struggle to cope with poverty and debt.

Appeal co-ordinators Yvonne and Donald Dennis are now playing Santa and delivering parcels to the needy.

Said Yvonne: “We have been overwhelmed by the response. People have been very generous.

“We have been running this for six years and we started giving out about 50 parcels. This year it’s 103.”

Working with the Leighton-Linslade Homeless Service the appeal, this year, has included food hampers.

“We could probably give out more toys but some people don’t like to ask for help,” she added.
