Fund Raising Is no laughing matter for a group intent on knocking the wind out of turbine developers.
The Stop Dorcas Lane Turbines action group held a fund-raising Comedy Night at the Three Locks Golf Club near Great Brickhill.
The event was one of a series of fund-raising activities that SDLT is organising to raise money to fight a planning appeal by developers intent on building four wind turbines near Stoke Hammond.
Event organiser Alison Jackson said “We must apologize to all residents in the vicinity of the Three Locks Golf Club for the fits of laughter that may have been heard for miles around.
“We as an organization do not wish to impose nuisance noise on residents; unlike the possible noise from the wind farm development should it go ahead.
The Golf Club was packed as guests were kept entertained through the night by MC Miles Crawford and an international cast of comedians -Anthony King, Trevor Crook and Brian Higgins.
The event was a big success and raised more than £1,000 towards the fighting fund.
Malcolm Newing, chairman of SDLT said: “We anticipate the total cost to SDLT of fighting this important stage to be in the region of £70,000-£80,000. The vast majority of this cost will be to pay for the legal and expert witness services that are required for the public inquiry.
“Clearly, this is a significant amount of money – we have no financial support other than that provided by the generosity of the local villagers and supporters of our cause.
“We are confident that we will be able to raise the full amount required. We are already well under way to building up this fighting fund and our success (and the local community generosity) over the last two years in raising large amounts of money is testimony to how we have pulled together to tackle this threat so far.
“However, we will only achieve the full amount with the continued support and enthusiasm of everyone who wishes to protect their families, their properties and their community from the potentially devastating impacts of the turbines.
“So a big thanks to all those who attended our comedy night and please let us know if there is anyone out there who fancies holding a fund-raising event on our behalf.”
