Wedding cake with moving carousel earns gold medal!

Michelle Shulman was “over the moon” with her award at the UK’s largest and most prestigious chef competition. It was the first time she has won gold since she started competing - seven years ago.

The 39-year-old, who in December also won the Best Wedding Cake Designer title at the Four Counties Wedding Awards, said: “After seven years of competing and coming so close on many occasions I certainly had my fingers crossed, especially with so much talent in one room.

“I’m ecstatic that the hard work and perseverance paid off.

“The cake took around 60 hours in all, working on it and off it, there are lots of little bits and tiny pieces that you need to wait to dry and paint.

“The cake is now taking pride of place in our shop window and is certainly drawing a lot of attention from passers by.

“The fact the carousel actually turns has certainly been a talking point.”

Michelle is hoping that this will be the start of a great year for her and La Belle Cake Company.

The cake shop, on North Street, has been nominated in the Bedfordshire Food and Drink Awards as Best Independent Food Producer of the Year.
