The biggest on-shore wind turbine in the UK has at last been erected in Heath and Reach.

Standing over 450ft tall, it is twice the height of All Saints Church in Leighton Buzzard.

Building work was completed within a matter of days last week – three years after planning permission was granted to Engena Ltd.

But some residents claim they were given no warning about the project. Despite these concerns, no formal objections were raised by councils during the planning application and green campaigners have highlighted the need for renewable energy sources.

Former LBO chief reporter Mick King, who lives in Heath and Reach, said: “Opinions seem to be divided between horrified and couldn’t-care-less.”
