Awards handed out to athletes
LEIGHTON Buzzard Athletics Club held its annual presentation night at the Hunt Hotel – a chance to look back at its achievements over the last 12 months and to hand out awards to successful athletes.
Whilst being a small club, its members continue to excel in the many races that they compete in through the year.
Of the numerous awards handed out, most notable were road running clubman/women of the year which went to Gareth Edwards and Alexandra Upton, and cross-country man/women of the year which went to Ben Corfield and Katherine Fielden.
The prestigious Stag Trophy was won jointly this year by newcomers Craig Nelson and Amy Price.
For the second year running, clubwoman of the year went to Alexandra Upton, who will have stiff competition next year from newcomers Louise Flack and Amy Price.
The award for clubman of the year, which has now been named the Paul Dimmock Trophy, deservedly went to Fred Watt, who since turning 60 a couple of months ago, has smashed the club's V60 records for the half marathon, 20 mile and marathon.
Other winners included 5K champions Simon Coombes and Alexandra Upton; 5M champions Simon Coombes and Liz Miller; 10K champions Simon Coombes and Gail Duckworth; 10M champion Andrew Inchley; Half marathon champions Joe Hurley and Alexandra Upton; Marathon champions Simon Lathwell and Alexandra Upton; X-country champions Simon Coombes and Alexandra Upton.
Thanks went to Gail Duckworth who yet again did a fantastic job in organising the event.
Leighton Buzzard Athletics Club is always looking for new members.
The club meets at 7.30pm on Wednesday nights at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre.
