FATHER and daughter Rob and Jo Heywood from Hockliffe helped Milton Keynes Rowing Club celebrate a winning start to this year's Regatta season with a victory in the Open Senior 3 Coxless Quad at Cambridge.

On the club's first visit to this event the mixed crew beat Rob Roy by a third of a length over the 400m course, despite the other crew enjoying home advantage.

The quad was crewed by a new grouping of Jo Heywood, Rob Heywood, Graham Targett and Steve Lawson.

Jo – ex-British Indoor Rowing Champion – stepped in at the last moment when the original sculler had to drop out. This was also Graham Targett's first competitive outing in a scull and the first time father and daughter Jo and Rob had raced together in a crew.

This victory came in the afternoon's racing, following the Head2Head races in the morning. They comprised a 2.6km time trial downstream on the River Cam, followed by rowing back upstream, with the times being added together. The Women's Senior 3 Eight and the Open Senior 3 Quad competed in this event, with the Women's Eight beating the other club crew in the event and the Quad racing for time only with no competiton.

As well as the victorious Quad, a Women's Novice Coxed Four and a Veteran Double scull competed in the afternoon's Regatta.

The Women beat City of Cambridge in the first round before falling to Cambridge '99 in the final.

The Veteran Double scull lost in their first round to the eventual winners.
