Leighton Town lose cup thriller though

Arlesey Town 6 Leighton Town 4 (aet)

After the long break caused by the extended cold snap, both teams provided an entertaining game for the small crowd at this Southern League Cup third round tie.

Arlesey started brightly on Tuesday night and Town had to defend desperately to keep the scores level.

Leighton took the lead in the eight minute when Aston Goss beat threemen down the left and then crossed superbly to Ben Gallant who headed firmly home.

Arlesey equalised in the 13th minute when the referee awarded a soft penalty which Leach converted easily.

A minute later the hosts took the lead when Reynolds scored with a low shot from the edge of the area after some weak defending by Leighton.

Town were not behind for long however and Craig Kench shot high into the net from 20 yards for a superb equaliser in the 17th minute.
Arlesey took the lead in the 20th minute when Sinclair scored after some more poor defending by Leighton.

Town drew level in the 32nd minute when Goss scored with a well-placed shot after good approach work by Porter and Kench.
Sinclair then added another to give the hosts the lead in the 41st minute.

Town drew level once again in the 78 th minute when Goss headed home at the far post after a good Town attack. With no further goals in normal time, the game went into an extra half hour.

Arlesey eventually sealed the game with two late goals in the 115th and 116th minute – the second coming after Town had been reduced to ten men when Jack Copson was sent off for a second yellow card.

>> Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club's second team also saw some action. Unfortunately the team crashed to a 17-0 home defeat against Dunstablians.
