Difficult away game reaps a draw.
Burnham 1
Leighton Town 1

Leighton travelled to Burnham on Saturday for a difficult away game against a team who have yet to lose a League game. However, after their recent win at Burnham in the League Cup and an impressive result from their midweek game at Atherstone, Leighton were hoping they could gain some reward after their recent inconsistent League form.

Wes Lewis was unavailable again and Ben Porter was drafted into midfield, James McNulty continued at centre back with Stuart Deaton, Lee Clark after a lengthy absence was recalled in goal with Kevin Higby dropping to the bench.

Town had plenty of possession early on and passed the ball around well on an excellent playing surface, without actually creating any chances. In the 11th minute Warren Garcia slipped a clever pass through the defence to Ben Gallant but his shot was well saved by McCarthy in the home goal at the expense of a corner.

From the corner Dan Walker's header was deflected for another corner which the home defence dealt with easily. Town had a scare in the 20th minute when a cross from the right was headed firmly against the post by Bird and a few minutes later the same player shot just wide of Clark's right hand post from the edge of the penalty area.

Leighton deservedly took the lead in the 28th minute following a corner on the right which was blocked twice by the home defence before James McNulty at the far post hooked home from close range.

Just after this a fluent move involving Gallant, Porter and Walker was halted when Goss was penalised for offside.

Town were looking good value for their lead but just before the break the hosts were given a debatable free kick out on the right hand touchline and when the ball was swung in by Coyne, Town's defence were caught a little flat footed and Burnham captain, Brett headed firmly past Lee Clark for the equaliser.

Town started the second half well and Warren Garcia fired a shot just over the bar in the 49th minute. Three minutes later Aston Goss beat two defenders before shooting high over the bar.

Burnham replied a minute later when a low cross from the left was knocked just wide of the near post by Bird. Town were involved in a strange incident in the 61st minute when Sam Scott was the victim of a very late tackle on the half way line and Peter Clifford was dismissed from the Town bench for his opinion of the referee's lack of punishment for the offending tackle.

Town immediately went on the attack and Ben Porter put a left footed effort just wide from 20 yards.

Town despite their ascendancy in the last 15 minutes were unable to find a winner although Kench went close in the 88th minute with a long range effort.

Town gave a good all round display, Clark looked confident behind a resolute back four as a tireless worker in attack.

Manager, Sean Downey must have been pleased with both performances this week and four very welcome points from two difficult away games.
Ben Porter had his best game yet for Leighton.

TEAM: Clark, Cunningham, Scott, Kench, McNulty, Deaton, Walker(Edge78), Porter, Gallant( Fenemore 84), Garcia, Goss. This week's Fixture. Sat 14th November 3pm Leighton Town v Hitchin Town
