Berkhamsted Town 1, Leighton Town 3

LEIGHTON Town cruised to an easy win at bottom club Berkhamsted on Easter Monday – and should have won by a much greater margin.

They dominated from start to finish and Enzo Silvestri missed a chance of giving them an early lead.

Reds opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Liam Howley headed home a Scott Thomas free kick.

A few minutes later Thomas got his name on the scoresheet by striking home a superb free kick from just outside the penalty area.

Town squandered several chances before poor defending allowed Grant Sanders in to pull one back for the home side just before half time.

Jack Copson went close for Leighton with a long-range effort on the stroke of half time.

Berkhamsted should have equalised at the start of the second half but Andy Mullins shot wide when well placed.

Town continued to dominate and only some great goalkeeping from Grant Palmer kept the score down.

Town's third came midway through the second half when sub Leon Cashman put Bruce Wilson through and he beat the keeper from close in.

A late save by Town keeper Nigel Maarman kept the margin comfortable and Town brought the points home.

Craig Kench did well after a long lay-off through injury.

Team: Maarman, Fagan, Old, Copson, Kench, Clifford, Howley, Thomas, Silvestri, Gallant, Wilson.Subs: Gentle-King (for Kench), McNulty, Wright.

Leighton have no game this Saturday but will be back in action at Bell Close on Tuesday when they entertain Chesham, 7.45pm kick-off.

Leighton's opponents in the Beds Senior Cup Final at Luton's Kenilworth Road ground on Monday May 12 will UCL Premier Division leaders Stotfold. They beat Potton 2-1 in the other semi-final.
