Banbury fight back to deny Town
Banbury United 4, Leighton Town 2

After an impressive Southern League campaign, Leighton Town missed out on some silverware to finish the season when they lost 4-2 to Banbury in the Buckingham Senior Charity Cup Final on Monday.

Town started well and only desperate defending on the goal line stopped Liam Howley putting them in front.

They grabbed the lead they deserved when Dennis Fenemore finished a great run by firing home the opening goal.

Banbury only troubled Town keeper Lee Clark once in the first half but came out strongly after the interval.

They forced one good save from Clark before hauling themselves back into the game with an equaliser.

Leighton regained the lead when James Hatch took advantage of some indecision at the back.

But almost immediately Town let Banbury back in to bring the scores level.

Leighton began to tire allowing Banbury to snatch the initiative.
They went in front for the first time – then sealed victory with a breakaway goal in the last minute.

A disappointing finish for Town but they can look back on a satisfactory season in which they achieved their highest points total at this level.
