Town's batting collapses again
Leighton Town suffered their third consecutive defeat after another dramatic batting collapse at home to Dinton in the Cherwell League on Saturday.

Town batted first and made a reasonable start with openers Tom Light (20) and Tom Scott (19) paving the way for a decent total.

This was continued with a third-wicket stand of 93 between Phil Whatmore and Dan Scott (42) before Whatmore, having reached 50, was caught on the boundary with the score on 154-3.

This was the start of Leighton's collapse as Town lost their last seven wickets for a meagre 21 runs in 40 minutes to finish up 175 all out.

Dinton, who rattled up 324 last week, went for a win from the first ball and openers Mike Sucliffe and Ashley Smith moved swiftly to 101 in 16 overs.

Smith was eventually out for 54 with the score on 143-1, but Dinton soon reached their target in 27.4 overs with Sucliffe unbeaten on 113 and Dinton finishing on 179-1.

Leighton took only four points from the match.

Leighton 2nds collected a maximum 25 points after winning by two wickets at Banbury 3rds.

The home side batted first and made 204-8 with Kirk Brazier taking 3-25.
Town slumped to 65-6 but fought back in the rain thanks to Rameez Dar's 32 off 31 balls and a match-winning partnership of 87 from Gareth Benger (57 not out) and Mickey Parker (43).

A superb all-round performance from Simon Halhead steered Leighton 3rds to victory over Stanton St John Willows 2nds and keeps Town top of the division.

Halhead top scored with 54 not out in a total of 165, then returned career best figures of 8-45 from 15 overs as bottom team Stanton were dismissed for 163.

Sunday's four fixtures were all abandoned without a ball being bowled because of the rain.

This Saturday Leighton 1sts start the second half of the season looking for a big improvement in results with a home game against near neighbours Milton Keynes Park.

The 2nds travel to Brackley with both games starting at 1pm. The 3rds play away against Tiddington 3rds starting at 1.30pm.

On Sunday the Beds League team play at home against Luton Town & Indians with the Development team away against Henlow 3rds. Both Sunday games start at 2pm.

Leighton's annual six-a-side tournament will be held during the week commencing Monday July 28.

With games starting at 6.15pm three teams will compete each evening in a round robin with the winners going forward to the semis and final evening on Friday August 1.

Great Brickhill will be returning to defend their trophy and there will be new teams entering from Ampthill and Eversholt and the Aero 6 from Luton.
