Gold medals for winning team
Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club emerged triumphant when they took part in the last ever Kay Hutton Trophy Gala at Dunstable on Saturday evening.

The gala, hosted by Dunstable Swimming Club, was a rather lengthy affair due to there being seven clubs taking part in the six-lane swimming pool!

Last year's winners Leighton Buzzard were up against Houghton Regis, Letchworth, Verulam (St Albans), Aylesbury, Lewsey Centre and the host club Dunstable. Due to the number of clubs taking part, there were two heats run for each of the 51 events.

Eight first places were achieved in the individual events by Callum Beach, Katy Casterton, Emily Glass, Lauren Grice, Robert Irons, Andrew McGlinchey, Joe McGarry and Michael Glass.

In the relay events, seven first places were achieved by Hannah Bulmer, Georgina Hawkes, Sofia Avolia and Zara Rogers; Jordan Davis, Harry Wears, James Folds and Robert Irons; Andrew McGlinchy, Hugh Britt, Louis Bell and Callum Beach; Katy Casterton, Helen Shaw, Emily Glass and Rebecca Casterton; Zara Rogers, Sofia Avola, Lauren Grice and Georgina Hawkes; James Folds, Fionn Bell, Robert Irons and Harry Wears; Jack McGarry, Alec Brooks, Didi Dyankov and Michael Glass.

All-important second places where achieved in nine individual events and four relays.

Sixteen PBs where achieved in the individual events by Jordan Davis, Callum Beach, Katy Casterton, Jack McGarry, Lauren Grice (2), Robert Irons, Andrew McGlinchey, Sofia Avola, Fionn Bell (2), Tom Boozer, Rebecca Casterton, Joe McGarry, Michael Glass and George Turner.

Team coach Graeme Bell was delighted with the result and said: "A fantastic effort by all of the swimmers involved and a great result for LBSC. I'm delighted that they all get to take home a nice gold medal as a memento of the gala."

Graeme gave a special thank you to Kiera Rogers who stood in at the last minute.

Leighton Buzzard came first in the gala with a massive 268 points, 34 ahead of the runners-up, and retained the cup – not just for another 12 months but for keeps as this was the last Kay Hutton Trophy Gala to be run by Dunstable Swimming Club.
