Conversion seals win by a single point

First team rugby returned to Wrights Meadow after a six-week lay off for the weather and Christmas break.

Ilkeston were the Leighton first team's opponents for the opening game of 2010 and they were looking to repeat the large score from the matrch earlier in the season.

The young Leighton side had other plans for them. Only three of the Buzzards squad had not come through the Leighton mini and junior system and indeed five of the team are still part of the current successful academy set up run by veteran Rod Keating.

Buzz came back from a 3-12 half-time deficit to win the match after George Messum's try was converted by captain Geoff Branwhite late on for a 13-12 success.

>> Next week Leighton travel to Wellingborough looking to avenge the 19-17 defeat from earlier in the season.

For a full match report see the 26.1.10 edition of the LBO.
