Fixing a slice
With half a dozen clubs and more than 3,000 regular golfers within a drive, chip and a putt from Leighton town centre, the LBO has signed on Leighton Buzzard Golf Club's PGA Advanced Professional coach Maurice Campbell to provide a monthly tip on how to improve your game and reduce that handicap.
Here is the first of golf doctor Maurice's tips for a healthier game:
Fixing a slice
For a right-handed golfer the predominant cause of a slice is the clubface pointing to the right at the point of impact with the ball. To stop a slice you must avoid this happening. The remedy is simple, but it needs practice to be effective.
All you have to do is to roll your hands over during impact. Without a golf club, stand with your right hand held open and out in front of your body with your thumb pointing up, now while moving your arm back and forth like a small golf swing simply roll your hand on forward part of the swing so the palm faces the ground. Now get a golf club, take your grip and create the same action with the club in your hands. How much you need to roll depends on how severe your slice is.
