Leighton United U11s back to their old form

LEIGHTON

CORINTHIANS

Leighton Corinthians U7 v

Wing Raiders

A very good match in between the showers in which Corinthianstook the initiative with a well taken goal from Albert Reed, Calum Elliot soon added a second, with a strong run down the left and a blast home.

The second quarter forced Joshua Loweto make a coupleofsaves and kept "battling" Billy Lawrence and Dillon Walker very busy.

Calum Elliot worked hard and added to his tally.

Raiders showed some great determination and started to make in-roads with a blast into the bottom right, Reece Pinder then started to show how well he can play and started sweeping up and feeding through balls to the ever present Billy Lawrence who did everything - except score.

Going into the final quarter well ahead, the raiders showed even more spirit and started a fight back, keeping Dillon Walker well on his toes and he did very well, just allowing them through to score once.

Joshua Lowe had also come alive with more saves to make and made an excellent full stretch dive to his right to keep the raiders out once again, but the man of the match, chosen by the club chairman who had popped by to see the last home game of the season, was named as Calum Elliot, who really worked well when he hadn't got the ball and also netted a hat-trick.

Newton Longville Athletic 2

Corinthian Tigers U14 3

Tigers bounced back from a 2-1 defeat the previous day to score a hard fought victory against a tough Athletic side. Indeed it was Athletic that had the bulk of possession in the first half as Tigers struggled for fluidity. MOM Alex Eaton made a couple of excellent saves from fine Athletic efforts but could do nothing to prevent the opening goal, a great finish from the Athletic forward.

However, Tigers found a way back when they were awarded a penalty that Billy Pantling comfortably dispatched. Athletic continued to press and were rewarded when they made it 2-1 direct from a poorly defended corner right on half time.

The second half saw Tigers improve with Jack Ellens providing a good outlet on the right in support of the hard working Matthew Ferguson. On the left Macauley Conway and Richard Batten also put in a decent shift, and Tigers soon found the equaliser when Thomas Knight popped up on the left of Athletic's area to pull the ball back for Ferguson to score from close range.

Back came Athletic but vigilant defending from Chris Lawford, Adrian Nicholson and the ever consistent Knight dealt with most of the threat. There was a great chance for an Athletic winner but the strike hit Tigers' bar. The ball was promptly cleared to the other end where Athletic's keeper kicked straight to Morgan O'Connell whose first time return found the back of the net for a Tigers winner.

Corinthian Lions U14 2

Wing Raiders 3

Theprevious meeting ended in a 6-2 League Cup defeat for the Lions but for most of this game the home side looked in control.

Ben Scatchett gave them an early lead and they should have had more but shot shyness and inaccuracy gave thevisitors hopewhich they turned into 1-1before the interval.

On the restart the Lions regained the upper hand and had several good chances before a terrific shot from Kyle Davison gave them the lead again.

A few minutes later, referee James Dey signalled another goal but when his attention was drawn to theline where the offsideflag was waving, it was back to 2-1.

The next near thing saw the ball roll against the post with the goalie beaten and no Lions following up. A weak attack by the Raiders ended as an OG after communication broke down between the defenders.

In the last few minutes theRaiders went for the winner and when it came it wasan easy straight shot which claimed the points.

Brackley Athletic Jaffas 0

Leighton Corinthians U17 5

Nearing the end of the season, Corinthians need to win all of the rest of their games to be in with a chance of winning promotion to the First Division.

The game started well for Corinthians as Ottaway continued his run of good form by scoring the first goal inside the first few minutes. With the midfield of Del Giacco, Gregory, Clarke and Nash providing good quality through balls and the defence keeping strong at the back, Corinthians dominated throughout.

Their dominance showed when Ottaway grabbed his second after another quality through ball. Mitchinson up front also looked threatening but couldn't quite finish. Ottaway grabbed his hat trick after some good build up play by the defence of Yee, Morgan, Sohi and Boud. The fourth came soon after as a long throw from Mitchinson found all its way to Gregory in the six-yard box who nudged the ball with his shin and found the bottom corner. A very comfortable 4-0 lead at half time was a fair reflection on their dominance.

After half time, Brackley came more into the game as Corinthians relaxed to victory. Although the Corinthians had many chances to complete a significant victory, there was only the one goal scored by Jackson in the second half, making the score 5-0 at full time. Dixon kept another clean sheet - his fifth of the season.

WOODSIDE

Toddington Rovers Leopards v Woodside Rovers U8

WOODSIDE were not the favourites in this fixture, however, supporters were treated to a repeat performance of the highscoring victory in the same fixture last season - and with the same scorers too!

Yet before the goals, it was a real end-to-end game. In attack Ross Daggett had two magnificent efforts saved whilst Roland Guwa was a constant thorn in Toddington's right side. In defence Seb Wawrzyniak made a series of breathtaking challenges.

The something special needed to break the deadlock eventually came when Captain Freddie Heath smashed home a loose ball on the volley. But even that was eclipsed when Ryan Connew scored after a fantastic five-man one-touch-passing move.

More majestic movement followed when Theo Davison found Bradley Harding-Farrington in space who tucked the ball through the keeper's legs for a third.

Max Jones finished off another fine move for his first goal of the season, then finished off Toddington from the penalty spot.

But with the going good, the running got heavy and William Shaw, who'd brilliantly touched three shots onto his post, eventually conceded late on.

A thoroughbred performance that ripped up the form-guide.

Woodside Rovers U8 v

Tattenhoe Tigers

Tattenhoe Tigers returned to Brooklands but since last season's mauling, they'd grown into real man-eaters.

However, the only things to suffer bites were the fingernails of the fans watching this nerve-racking game.

Firstly, Ryan Connew scored a free-kick from the second hardest strike of the game (the hardest was a clearance that had referee Steve Shaw talking a pitch higher than his whistle), but this was cancelled out when the opposition striker bundled through William Shaw in goal.

Then Bradley Harding-Farrington scored at the end of the first half, only for Tattenhoe to draw level at the start of the second.

Then Ross Daggett blasted a pile-driver off the underside of the bar, but the away side replied with an equally ferocious strike.

Woodside rallied for the final ten minutes of their season…whilst Max Jones and Sam Beaumont pushed forward, Theo Davison and Freddie Heath pulled strings until Bradley Harding-Farrington scored another.

Rovers had roared back into the lead for a fourth time. And this time some wonderful Seb Wawrzyniak tackles made sure that the Tigers weren't going to come back to life yet again.

A fantastic end to a fantastic match and a fantastic season.

Newport PagnellLions1

Woodside Rovers U10 4

From the kick off Woodside went on the attack and an early corner found Mason Coleman in the penalty area with time to control the ball and fire home.

Newport Pagnell were quick on the break but defenders Sam Cook and Ben Crallan kept them out. Rovers second came from a vicious Luke Williams cross; Joe Harley had slightly overrun it but somehow managed to flick the ball goalwards with the outside of his left foot. Meanwhile at the other end, keeper Noah Heath was saved by the woodwork when one of his goal kicks was returned with interest.

Despite warnings by the coach at half time Woodside started the second half very slowly allowing the Lions far too much time and space. Blake Lewis in defence had his work cut out as the Lions attacked relentlessly. A tactical switch moving Owen Claridge onto the left wing and Joseph Raymen to the right seemed to wake the Rovers up and paid dividends almost immediately as Owen fired home Woodside's third.

Newport Pagnell finally broke down the Woodside defence to score but Rovers had the final word, with Jay Stephenson making a nuisance of himself up front, Luke fired home after a strong run down the left.

Woodside Rovers U11 3

Southside Utd 1

Once again Alex Batty, Harvey Jones and keeper Mark Roberts were the defensive rock that enabled this fine win against a spirited Southside. With the game moving from end to end, a great tackle from Callum Connew was picked up by Max Coleman, who's defence splitting pass saw Peter Ulyett blast the ball home. Lloyd Milliken and Michael Davies exerted attacking pressure with Milliken supplying some fine crosses, but the Southside keeper was on great form coming out well to deny Coleman and Ulyett. However it was Southside who scored next with an equaliser after a defensive mix-up.

If possible the quality of football improved with Morgan Bell and Davies dominating the midfield with a range of quality attacking runs and intelligent passing. Stuart Matthews on the right Wing was also on great form beating the Southside defence again and again. Woodside took the lead with blisteringly hit penalty from Connew. Southside however were still a threat, but Conor Drosihn in the holding role assisted Batty and Jones in winning their one to one battles. More chances fell to Bell and Matthews, but it was Davies who sealed the win firing in a rebound from his initial strike. A fantastic match that was full of great crowd pleasing football.

Woodside Rovers U12 0

West Bletchley 8

As the scoreline suggests Woodside were well beaten but, they were not disgraced. Lacking three players, Woodies played as a team and worked hard for each other against a team destined to win the Division One title. As disappointing as it was to concede eight goals, they never let their heads drop and kept going right to the final whistle. Four goals were conceded in each half but, at 3-0 Woodies were awarded a penalty when a brilliant run from Kieren Fosberry ended with him being tripped.

Unfortunately, a delay caused by protests from the opposition contributed to the spot kick being missed. MoM Dominic Lombino was the pick of the midfield but, Isaac Claridge, Oscar Russell and James Harman were not far behind in terms of effort. Tom Boozer defended from the front, whilst Rhys Davies used his long throws to try and create some opportunities. At the back Robert Irons was the pick of the defenders but, Luke Boyes, Fionn Bell and Keigan Smith, playing in an unfamiliar position, all acquitted themselves well. John Shaw made a couple of good saves whilst second-half keeper George Fidczuk did likewise and commanded his penalty area too. Hopefully, Woodies will learn the lessons from this game and go on to make their position safe.

Woodside Rovers U15 1

Towcester Juniors U15 2

Rovers' penultimate game of the season was against mid-table Towcester Juniors.

Rovers started brightly, gaining a penalty in the first 10 minutes which was unfortunately missed. The game evened out after this with plenty of chances going both ways. Excellent saves from both Cherry and the Towcester keeper kept the score at bay.

Jones, Jell, Robertson and Ryan battled hard in midfield and after a well won tackle, Ryan was put through. He fired the ball across the 6-yard box for O'Donoghue to apply the finish. This set up Rovers with a good half time lead.

But it was Towcester who came out from half-time the more ready and equalised from a great shot which had Cherry well beaten.

Some strong Towcester pressure after the goal was seen off by the defence of Arscott-Smith, O'Hara, Greany and Callaghan.

Slowly Rovers got hold of the game again and had some excellent chances fell their way. McGarvey and Stiles had the best ones but failed to score.

This gave Towcester the chance to take advantages and they scored with 10 minutes to go. Rovers tried to find an equaliser but it was too late and Towcester took all three points. MOM: Ryan.

LEIGHTON TOWN

Leighton Town U9 2

Langford Youth 2

In an entertaining game, Town kept up their good finish to a long season with a goodperformance. In the first half Town played some beautiful football withLangford chasing shadows and a great through ball gave David a chance and with an exquisite turn he put Town one up.

Alex and Callum were protecting this lead and with Isaac not dropping anything in goal the omens were good. Jack, George and Nathan were controlling midfield, In the secondhalf Town carried on and a close game ensued. Jack went close with a free kick. Nathan was running the defence ragged but last ditch tackles saved Langford.

A superb saved from Isaac tipping the ball onto the post kept Langford out but a moment of hesitancy let Langford in for an equaliser.

Pressure mounted with Bradlee on to try and stop the flowbut a second Langford goal came. Town then pushed on and Luke came on to release other players forwardwith Georgenow keeping the ball in Langford's half a free kick was awarded. Up stepped Jack who dispatched the kick into the bottom left hand corner and itwas deserved. The final couple of minutes saw Alex go close with an attempted lob but the points were shared. Well played lads a great performance. MOM Isaac.

Totternhoe Youth U9 0

Leighton Town U9 7

One of the best performances of the season saw Town sweep aside a much improved Totternhoe team. Starting quickly, Town got their passing game going, with good interplay from George and Nathan. This set-up the opener for David who finished with a neat flick. Totternhoe started to get into the game but Callum and Alex ensured Isaac had little to do.

Jack sent a through ball to Nathan whose shot from a tight angle was too hot to handle for the keeper.

Jack got the third with a cool finish from George's terrific cross and Leyton scored a great volley after the move of the match when Jack, George and Nathan linked up down the right wing.

Totternhoe tried their best in the second half, but Alex seemed to be everywhere and with Luke now helping out, little was troubling Leighton Town. Nathan added two more goals to complete an excellent hat-trick and Leyton scored another poachers goal, getting on the end a fine cross from Jack.

What on paper was a tricky game against an in-form team proved to be Town's best win of the season. Any of the boys could have got it, but Alex was MoM.

Leighton Town U10 2

Brookfield Rangers Sparrowhawks 4

With an under strength squad it was Town who came under early pressure with Kieran Read playing in goal to make his first of many great reaction saves. But the Reds started to get into their stride with close efforts by Mathew Callow and Liam Rawlings.

The first goal fell to Town when a Sparrowhawk's player deflected the ball into his own net, but back came the away team and they equalised with well hit shot that took a deflection on its way in. Luke Mills then blasted the ball from some distance past the Hawks keeper to keep Town in front. Alessandro Frantellizzi cleared the ball off the line just before half time.

Town stared the second half positively when Rhys Cullen came close with the ball just going the wide of the post. Conner Rowson in defence worked hard but the Hawks pulled themselves back into the game with their second. But it wasn't over yet and with Reds still pushing forward they got hit on the break to go behind for the first time in the game. MOM Kieran Read couldn't do much about the Hawks fourth as he made another save but the ball fell for a Hawks player to knock in.

Leighton Town Rangers U12 4

Toddington Rovers 2

Rangers set off for Maulden suited and booted and determined to bring back the cup. It was a glorious sunny morning and the boys were ready for the battle ahead. The whistle blew and the reaction was immediate. Every player was sensational, Town were first to the ball all over the pitch andcreated three really good chances in the first ten minutes.

A great move involving Jake Stocker and Brett Freeman resulted in a goal from the gods from Damian Lewis. This was the signal for an onslaught of attacking football which culminated in Ben Arnott battling hard to headin number twofrom a Tyler Cameron goal kick.

Niall Wagnerwas breaking up all that Toddington threw and the back four of Nicky Walton, Mitchell Greany, Zack Crossingham and George Zammit were defending superbly. Several more chances went begging before the half-time whistle.

The second half started and within a couple of minutes the Red Army were treated to a spectacular strike from Lewis which flew into the top corner to make it three nil. The introduction of Joe Kiernan and Nicky Taylor had given fresh impetus andCaiius Payne was flying down the right wing at every opportunity.

Zack then decided he would score his first goal of the season in the county cup final. He beat three players and ran half the length of the pitch before smashing an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net.

Toddington showed what a great side they are by battling all the way to the finish and were rewarded with two late goals. The final whistle was met with huge cheers andscenes of greatjubilation. Rangers had done it and were quite rightly crowned County Champions.

Team spokesman said: "A big thank to our sponsors BE Aerospace for their continued support."

Squad: Cameron, Walton, Greany, Crossingham, Zammit, Stocker, Wagner, Lewis, Payne, Freeman, Arnott, Kiernan, Taylor.

Leighton Town U15 1

Leighton United U15 1

As early as the first minute Tom Coleman, who was to have an excellent all-round game, won a free kick. Tom Gordon's curling effort was clawed away by the keeper.

Jordan Potter's outstanding defending sealed the right flank, and when his throw bounced in the box the impish Jack Sewell pounced to score.

Alfie Ruston passed and switched play intelligently, combining particularly well with the buccaneering Liam Edwards.

Sewell fired just over after a typically powerful Callum Boskett clearance, and Ruston fared similarly after good work by Gordon.

Matt Fisher, whose handling was superb, made a good near post save to preserve Town's half time lead.

Tighe Campbell and Luke Binding came on after the break, and contributed well as United pressurised Town. The watchful Dominic Cooper and dauntless Charlie Green were prominent in this period, but United eventually managed a scrambled goal from a corner.

Lee Adams asserted himself well, and the Reds again played some neat football; a Green header and brave Gordon effort nearly restored their lead.

Roared on by an impressively sized youthful crowd at Bell Close Town finished the more likely winners, as Sewell's lob hit the top netting, and Ruston thumped the bar.

Leighton Town U15 2

St Joseph Youth U15 3

Town started brightly, Jack Sewell dribbling well and sending a looping shot just over.

St Joseph's then managed an emphatic goal, after which Town's defenders had their hands full; but nippy Luke Evans and classy Jordan Potter fought hard. Callum Boskett exuded defiance and Dominic Cooper dealt increasingly effectively with a skilful opponent.

Leighton had their moments: after a superb Tom Gordon pass Sewell's shot was just saved, then a corner was headed narrowly wide by Boskett. Town spread play well, with Alfie Ruston, Danny O'Donnell and Tighe Campbell all showing neat touch and passing. St Joe's worked a neat goal just before the break.

The Reds made wholesale second half changes, and Lee Adams and Liam Edwards made an immediate impact, Adams' shot winning a corner.

Matt Fisher's saves and handling were excellent, and he launched a kick that put in Charlie Green. Green's felling in the box amazingly did not produce a penalty.

Tom Coleman drove inches over, and Luke Binding raced down the flank, before a curious penalty award against Leighton enraged all.

Town's fired-up boys scored when the redoubtable Green netted from a silky Gordon free kick, and Tom himself converted a penalty he won.

Leighton Town Youth U11s need more players for next season. Trials will be held at Bell Close on May 12 at 6.45pm. Contact Martin on 07730615284 for more details.

LEIGHTON UNITED

Leighton United Girls U10 3

Stotfold U10 3

United started brightly with Rachel Moffat hitting the post and Alisa Chapman forcing the keeper into a save. After a defensive mix-up, Stotfold took the lead and continued to work United's defence hard.

Jasmine Page had a shot saved but the home team looked tired and never really got into their stride. Savannah Shepherd in goal had to make a couple of brave saves to keep the score down and Jade Lindars cleared her lines well.

Half-time couldn't come soon enough and straight after the break Lizzie Richardson took a pass from Chapman to squeeze home an equaliser.

Stotfold hit back immediately with a breakaway goal and then went 3-1 up as United failed to clear. At this point and with only 10 minutes left, the home team finally started playing. Page had a shot blocked, Charlie Lambert was involved in a scramble and finally Richardson controlled a high ball and slotted home from a tight angle.

United's defence was still being stretched. Stotfold hit the post, Lucie Webster worked her socks off sweeping up at the back and Charlotte Mulford put in some crunching tackles. As the clock ticked down, Richardson shot wide. The crowd thought it was all over... then Moffat passed long to Chapman to flick on and Richardson was through on goal. She calmly slotted home a last minute equaliser for her fifth hat-trick of the season and earned player of the match.

Bedford Town Colts 0

Leighton United U11 A 7

United back to their old form, were strong in all positions. An early shot from Luke rebounded out to JC, who was fouled by the keeper and JC's cool penalty put United ahead. United's second came from a great right wing cross from Brett, which found the head of Jordan. Bedford then made an attempt to get into the game and a good strike was pushed aside from the finger tips of Charlie Cooper. United ended the half with skill and vision from Neel finding Jono and a quick pass left JC unmarked and his second.

United's second half started with Jake and Ollie spending most of the time in the midfield supplying great balls forward. Brett made a great solo run and finished with a well placed strike. Leighton's relentless midfield due of Jono and Harry, then supplied JC with his hat-trick.

Bedford could not get out of there own half and when MOM Luke Janes made a superb timed run and great solo goal, they looked deflated. The final goal was United at their best, with a string of quick passes, and a nice tap in for Charlie Beary which showed what united can do on a good day.

Bedford Park Rangers 2 Leighton United U16 B 1

Another top of the table clash, the third in a week, saw United meet their oldest rivals in fiercely contested match.

The two teams were evenly matched and there was not much separating them during a goalless first half.

The brilliant match was only marred by an unsporting incident compounded by the ref.

After a United player was struck in the face with the ball the ref initially gave a dropped ball then changed his mind and gave the ball to BPR to pass back to the keeper.

The BPR player took it upon himself to shoot on an undefended goal instead, initially ruled out by the ref, he caved into manager/supporter pressure and gave a goal; Incredible!

Home team coach and lino, could not believe the decision and were very embarrassed.

Uniteds heads dropped and a mix up between keeper and defender allowed BPR to poach another goal with 15 minutes remaining.

This spurred United into life and the BPR goal was peppered with shots, but United were unable to convert until a Goodyear Lob found the roof of the net, to little to late and probably the end of hopes for a top two finish.

Leighton United U16B 2

Flitwick Eagles 2

This game against unbeaten Flitwick was exciting from start to finish.

United totally dominated the first half and keeper WEBB was untroubled.

Minney up front could have had a hat-trick, but for a fine save, and the woodwork. He combined well with Roberts whose hold up play was terrific.

The pace of King and Lafferty on the wings caused problems for Flitwick all afternoon.

Two goal mouth clearances and a header onto the post were other chances which went begging in the first half.

Corbett in a holding midfield role was superb and battled well, as did MoM Goodyear in the centre of midfield.

The defence of Butler, Lynch, Dyer and Perrin were outstanding.

United took the lead when a Dyer throw was met by Ratcliffe in the box with his head.

The lead was further extended when a Mulvihill corner was met by Perrin who fired the ball into the roof of the net.

Cheshire and Nichols came on as subs, both making effective contributions and keeping the flow of the game United's way.

Unfortunately two lapses in concentration cost United the honours late in the game.

HEATH PANTHERS

Heath Panthers U11 Kittens 3 AFC Kempston Colts Sapphires 1

Kempston came to Heath and Reach. The Kittens knew what they had to do and they all came through with Charlie Kaye scoring one in the first half.

Then Kempston came back making it 1-1 in the second half. The Kittens started to fall asleep but then soon picked it up when Kempston hit the goal post. Chloe Birnie scored her first goal with Charlie Kaye making it 3-1 a few moments later. Well done to all the girls, keep it up - one more game to go. POM Toni Kaye.

Bromham 5

Heath Panthers U17 3

With their last game of the 20 match league programme Bromham stretched their table-topping lead to six points - only the Panthersor Corinthians candeny them.

Heath started well and went ahead through an Aiden Denton corner which ended in the net. There were chances at each end but the interval came with the Panthers leading.

It was a different gamein the second half as the home side raced to 4-1 lead before Heath got their second breath and Ryan Donnelly pulled one back.

But Bromham scored again putting victory out of reach and despite another goal for Panthers through Kieran , Panthers couldn't get close.

EATON BRAY LIONS

EB Lions U11 1

Oakley Rangers U11 2

Lions culminated their season with one of their most illustrious showings to date, outplaying one-time title challengers Oakley for much of the opening half and a chunk of the second. There were some early threats from the visitors which were comfortably dealt with by MoM goalie Dan Kennell but ultimately Oakley found their range and sliced in a scything shot that handed them an early lead.

Strong work in midfield by Dominic Ryan, Charlie Nevitt, Mason Ashby and Aarin Johnson kept Lions in the match though, with a Chris McGee shot passing just wide of the left post.

In the second half Lions continued to demonstrate their strength in attack, as well as producing classy defensive work courtesy of Ben Roberts, Jake, Adam Bradley, James Pratt and Tom Horner. More forward work had the Rangers suddenly back peddling as Aaron Gauntlett, Will Juster, Will Petherbridge and Alex Poynter all assisted with eyecatching attacking plays, until Sean Woodhouse completed with a searing strike to level the scoreline.

The visitors struggled to get back on top and eventually managed to net a second, bringing about a narrow and hard fought victory.

EB Lions U13 girls 5

AFC Kempston 1

This was a must win match for the Lions and what a match this was, right from the first kick to the last the Lions were awesome. With Oliver commanding in goal and Thiel, Scott and Hudson in defence the back always looked safe. Again midfield was dominated by Ashby, Ferguson, and Kirkwood while upfront strikers French, Viljoen and Byrne caused all sorts of problems for Kempston who were unable to stop a determined Lions team from scoring five times.

The first goal came after 14 minutes after a long throw from Viljoen into the box and French headed home, a great move. Lion's second goal 3 minutes before halftime was a combination of passes starting with Ashby then Viljoen and good finish by French.

A minute into the second half from a move started from inside the Lions half the ball moved effortlessly up to French who completed a great hat-trick and the Lions were 3-0 up. The Lions continued to push forward and then with 12 minutes left against the run of play Kempston scored.

The Lions replied 5 minutes later with a good individual goal from Viljoen and then in the last minute Viljoen got her second and the Lions finished a superb performance 5-1 winners.

This put the Lions into second place in Division 1 and made the Manager and Coaches very proud of every one of them, again.

Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, French, Viljoen, Hudson, Byrne, Ferguson, Kirkwood.

LINSLADE GREENLEAS

Greenleas Year 2 team

Fourteen teams of year 1 and 2 children played at the Southcott Schools tournament. Greenleas was in league 1 and played games against Aspley Guise, Heathwood, Ashton and the year 1 team at Greenleas. They won those games 4-0, 3-0, 3-0 and 4-0 respectively with 5 goals from Owen Merrington and Ryan Smith, 3 from Charlie Waple-Moors and 1 from Kieran Carvell.

Greenleas also played Southcott and Dovery Down. Both games ended 0-0 and only outstanding defending from Dan Hodey and Oscar Barnes kept the team in contention.

The final was against the league 2 winners, Linslade Lower in a game that Greenleas dominated. Merrington scored two quick goals to take his tally to a tournament-best 7 and Smith added the third to seal the win and the tournament.

Harry Eacott, Emily Heale and James Mallord all played well and the whole team should be proud of their performance and for the excellent spirit in which they played.

Linslade Greenleas FC are holding trials for next season's U11 / U12 teams on April 29 and May 6.

U10's team (Athletico)are also looking for a couple of extra players.Visit the website www.lg-fc.orgfor more information.

Linslade Greenleas

Athletico U9 0

Willen Juniors Eagles 5

An early goal in this cup semi-final saw Athletico having to chase the game from the off. A well drilled Willen side put on the early pressure and a blistering shot was too much despite Axford's best efforts in goal.

Athletico got into their stride and despite not having the best of the ball, some good on-ball skills from Captain Dimeo combining with the strong running from Culley on the wing saw Athletico pushing for an equaliser. It wasn't until just before half-time that Willen grabbed a second despite the efforts of Potter hustling in defence.

At half-time the team remained positive with the two goal deficit not an insurmountable task. Early in the second half, however, Willen attacked again to make it 3, although Cantwell battled well to try and keep the attack at bay.

A strong run from Williams down the right wing, finding Liggett in the middle looked like it might shape for an Athletico comeback. Willen, however, stretched their lead, but it looked like Kharawala may sneak one from the chances Athletico created.

From 60 teams starting, Athletico can be proud of making it to the last 4, competing well with three teams from the division above, and incurring only their first loss of the season!

Athletico are looking for more players for next season – details available at www.lg-fc.org

WING RAIDERS

Woburn Lions Under 11 5

Wing Raiders 1

A strong Woburn start, but MoM Chapman led the defensive line well. Important interceptions from Giltrow (Capt) and McCabe, supported by midfielder Allen kept Woburn at bay.

Keeper M Jones made some outstanding saves as Woburn pressed.

Wing then stepped up a gear with flowing moves, first from Wiggins, Barrett, Goode and W. Jones and then a terrific pass from Brown to W Jones whose low shot was saved.

Barrett and McSweeney linked up well, but shot wide before Woburn scored. 1-0.

Powerful running from Giltrow set up Goode who laid the ball on for Brown's superbly chipped equaliser. 1-1. Half Time.

Heasman made some timely tackles, linking up well with the midfield.. Wing defence was caught twice in quick succession, so suddenly Wing found themselves 4-1 down.

Both teams continued to attack, but Wing couldn't make the final ball count, with Barrett, Brown, Goode and Allen looking for the goal the performance deserved. Wiggins, Chapman and Heasman tackled furiously to keep Wing in the game, while M Jones remained strong in goal. Just as Wing steadied the ship, Woburn struck – full time score 5-1.

MoM Chapman for a strong all-round performance.
