All the odds as Town travel to Grimsby
The News/Gazette BetVictor column
Town boss Paul Buckle seemed happy enough with last weekend’s clean sheet and point against promotion-rivals Wrexham but the layers weren’t too impressed and Luton are back out to 9/4, but still market leaders, at BetVictor for the Conference title and 11/10, having been a shade of odds on in recent weeks, to be promoted at the end of the season.
After the Alfreton debacle a point wasn’t a disaster for the Hatters but they have another very tough game on Friday evening when they travel to a Grimsby side (10/1 for the title) who are unbeaten in their last seven and also played out a 0-0 draw last weekend at bottom-of-the-table Kidderminster.
The Mariners will leapfrog Luton if they take all three points in front of the TV cameras and they are 9/5 with the visitors 31/20 and the draw at 12/5 at BetVictor.
Neither side will want to lose the game but the onus is on the hosts to try and break down the visitors and the hope is that the Hatters can hit them on the break. It promises to be a cracker and Luton need to exorcise their away day demons after the Alfreton horror show.
A 1-1 scoreline is the favourite and most popular scoreline to date at 11/2 but I think Buckle’s team will nick it 2-1 which is 17/2.
Take out a 4-1 thrashing of Mansfield and the Mariners have only scored five goals in their eight other Conference fixtures and can hardly be described as prolific although they have kept five clean sheets in this recent unbeaten run stretching back to the second game of the campaign.
Stuart Fleetwood remains 9/2 favourite to be top goalscorer in the division and Buckle will have been delighted to see Jon Shaw (25/1) back from suspension at Kenilworth Road and let’s hope the striker is back amongst the goals on Friday.
In Saturday’s games I like the look of both Wrexham (home to Dartford) and Newport County (home to Stockport) at 8/13 to win their respective games.
In the Premier League there is a real Super Sunday and we will be refunding bets on incorrect first goalscorer and correct score bets if there is a red card in the Anfield clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.
This will be Liverpool’s first game at home since the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel exonerated Liverpool fans and it will be an emotional but fully charged Anfield.
United are marginal favourites at 8/5 with Brendan Rodgers’ Reds who are still looking for their first win of the season at 7/4 and the draw at 9/4; some things are written; Liverpool for me.
In the other big game of the weekend City are ¾ at home to unbeaten Arsenal; last year’s meeting between the sides could have gone either way and this new look Gunners were impressive at Anfield before hammering a poor Southampton side. As long as Abou Diaby is in the side Arsenal can nick a point
